ART

I am a self-taught, abstract painter. Emotionally charged, my vibrant mixed media paintings explore concepts and meaning. I believe that art has a unique capacity to capture the essence of an idea in a way that logic and reason cannot.

I have published artwork in ARTEMIS, the Wild Roof Journal and The Closed Eye Open, and exhibited locally in Winchester and in the Woman Made's Gallery HOME exhibition.

UNTAMED Acrylic on canvas Size: 40cm x 30cm The tiger in this painting is helping the woman remember that she cannot and will not be tamed by the patriarchy. She is untamable. But untamed is not the same as unmeasured or out of control. She can find resourceful ways to deal with difficult people and difficult situations. This tiger is inviting the woman to welcome and ride her rage and anger, and alchemize it into passion and discerning action.	SILENCE Acrylic on canvas Size: 40cm x 30cm I have been alone and awake in the wild all night. I have been still I have been silent I have been invisible. I have been a barn owl A Goddess of the night Bathing my soft feathers in the luminous darkness. I have extinguished sound from my swoop As water extinguishes fire. I know I know everything I know I know nothing. I know silence can be powerful That silence can be wisdom That silence can be deadly.	MRS FOREST Acrylic on canvas Size: 40cm x 30cm The painting is inspired by my favourite female movie character: Neytiri in Avatar. Daughter of a shaman, she is a fierce and courageous, as well as highly sensitive and intuitive, which makes her a powerful healer, warrior and leader. She sources her power from the ancient, conscious, and wise tree of souls, and she serves her community and her lands with reverence. She is in active conversation with the earth under her bare feet and the wind in her hair.
EBB AND FLOW Acrylic on canvas Size: 100cm x70cm The woman rises out of the deep fertile seas of the Jurassic coast, towards the healing silvery beams of Grandmother moon. She listens tenderly to the whispers hidden in the cusp of the waves. She does not strive for linear or perfect or consistent, as she knows that her power is actually sourced from the ebb and flow of her tides. From her constant change of change. If you know the sea, you know the woman…	RISE AND SHINE Acrylic on canvas Size: 100cm x 70cm The woman in the painting is the daughter of Mother Earth and Father Sky. She rises out of the deep fertile green earth of Osmington in Dorset, where a white horse is etched into the hill. The earth reveals her Jurassic fossils and the sacred geometry of millions of years of wisdom. She rises towards the golden warm joyful energy of our Father Sun. She understands that she is not just witnessing the beauty of nature, but that she is nature herself.	OH LA LA Acrylic on deep canvas Size: 100cm x 70cm OH LA LA is from the series ‘I’m just an animal girl really’: an ode to the soul in all living creatures and the interconnectedness of everything. The woman in the painting manifests abundance wherever she goes. She is wealthy in so many ways because she honours the sacredness in everything around her and everything within her. Her spirit animal is the kingfisher, which stands for prosperity, and is a symbol of peace and good fortune.
MOTHER NATURE Acrylic on canvas Size: 40cm x 30cm This woman has roots deep in the earth; intertwined with all the ancient trees. She lives in accordance with the seasons, and rises with the solar energy of the sun, and ebbs and flows with the powerful lunar cycles. She has a deep respect and admiration for all animals on the planet, and if she listens carefully, she can hear their whispers… She understands that she is not just witnessing nature, but that she is – in and of herself – nature itself. That is why there is no separation between the woman in this painting and her spirit animal dove. The white dove energy has guided the woman into her truest and deepest union. She has wedded herself. THE LIGHT AT THEN END OF THE TUNNEL Acrylic on deep canvas Size: 100cm x 70cm SOLD After recent dark times, the painting was commissioned to remind the owner that there is ‘light at the end of the tunnel’. The lover’s spirit wolves created a heart shape (not intentional). The painting's message is clear: the light at the end of the tunnel is LOVE of course! And as long as we can be a part of love, the light is not visible in the distance. It has arrived. It. Is. Right. Here. My. Friend.	PEACOCK LOVE Acrylic on canvas Size: 40cm x 30cm SOLD The spirit animal peacock in this painting symbolises beauty, love and openness. The painting was commissioned by Julia, a lifelong friend of mine, who is the living example of the pure beauty that can radiate from a person when one shows one's true colours. She is charismatic, beautiful, charming, spirited, full of emotion, open, and overflowing with love and integrity.	BEAR HUG Acrylic on canvas Size: 45cm x 35cm The spirit animal in this painting is a brown bear, which is emblematic of grounding forces and strength. This animal has been worshiped throughout time as a powerful totem, inspiring those who need the courage to stand up against adversity. This painting depicts a woman who is content, gentle, and happy, as she embraces and honours her inner power and strength, and uses it appropriately. Her spirit animal allows her to be deeply in touch with the earth.
HEADING HOME Acrylic on canvas Size: 30cm x 40cm This woman’s spirit animal has blown her mind wide open to the interconnectedness of everything in the universe. Wild geese know in their every cell what and where home is. They trust the instinct deep within their soft bodies. The painting explores how connection to our own soft bodies, and connection to nature and animals, bring us home to our truest self. As Mary Oliver says: “You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.”	MOURNING DOVE Oil on canvas Size: 35cm x 45cm The bird in this painting is a Mourning Dove, which is graceful, slender-tailed, small-headed dove, commonly found in North America. This painting is a self-portrait to remind me – especially in these times of great universal transition – that there is a flow of grace moving through me, and that I am exactly where I am meant to be right now.	GENISIS Acrylic and spray paint on canvas Size: 40cm x 30cm The painting is called Genesis because all stories – those of humans, birds, trees – have their genesis in the earth. We all start, and end, with The Great Mother. The birds in this painting are the UK’s favourite bird: the red robin. Robins are closely associated with rebirth and rejuvenation. The robin is the spirit animal of the beautiful pregnant tree lady in the painting, which symbolises new life, new growth, and new beginnings.
CRAZY PARROT Acrylic on canvas Size: 40cm x 30cm What you can see here is an altered state of reality: the parrot spirit animal is helping the human to release her control-freak tendencies and instead embrace a wild life. The crazy parrot encourages her to step off the conveyor-belt-life that everyone else leads, and instead live a bright, colourful and playful life. “We nurture our creativity when we release our inner child. Hartwell	QUEEN BEE Oil on canvas Size: 80cm x 60cm The bird in this painting is a Bee-eater, a vibrantly coloured bird, most commonly found in Africa. The woman in this painting has discovered that the Bee-eater is her spirit animal. The snake wrapped around her neck illuminates her sensuality and playfulness. She works with (not against) Mother Nature, and harnesses her power from the natural world that she inhabits.	VISIONARY FALCON Acrylic on canvas Size: 30cm x 40cm The Falcon in this painting has flown with great speed and aptitude into the woman’s head. She needed this wake up call, as she had unintentionally given her power away to the patriarchy. The Falcon’s beak is a powerful weapon used to kill prey, symbolising the powerful impact of a woman’s intuitive and visionary words. The Falcon helps the woman reclaim her razor-sharp intuitive powers so she can be the visionary that she was born to be…
NIGHT OWL Oil on canvas Size: 100cm x 70cm The bird in this painting is a Barn Owl, a majestic and mysterious bird that is often heard at night, but hardly ever seen. The woman in this painting has discovered that the Barn Owl is her spirit animal. She is acutely perceptive, elusive and private. She is intimately connected to the moon. She is the master of the night.	GRACE Acrylic on canvas Size: 30cm x 40cm The spirit animal swan in this painting symbolises purity, beauty, grace, love and elegance. We closely associate this bird with Aphrodite, the goddess of romance and love. The man is the swan whisperer, and he finds that connecting to his swan spirit animal helps him balance his masculine and feminine energies and develop his own intuitive abilities.	YIN and YANG Acrylic on canvas Size: 30cm x 40cm This painting explores the constant challenge of balancing our soft nurturing feminine energies with our determined and strong-willed masculine energies. This spirit animal is a black hawk eagle, which visited me on a shamanic journey as my power animal. I wanted to honour it in this painting, as it offered me its strength, focus and vision.
WOODPECKER WHISPERER Oil on canvas Size: 35cm x 45cm The bird in this painting is a Great Spotted Woodpecker with pied black and white plumage and a red patch on the lower belly. A species resident in my very own garden in the South Downs National Park. The man in this painting has discovered that the Great Spotted Woodpecker is his spirit animal. He is resilient, discerning and wise. He is quietly confident. He never gives up, gracefully pecking his way through the wood of life.	WOLF LADY Oil on canvas Size: 30cm x 40cm “Like the wolf, intuition has claws that pry things open and pin things down, it has eyes that can see through the shields of persona, it has ears that hear beyond the range of mundane human hearing. With these formidable psychic tools a woman takes on a shrewd and even precognitive animal consciousness, one that deepens her femininity and sharpens her ability to move confidently in the outer world.” Clarissa Pinkola Estes	UNSETTLED SPIRIT ANIMAL Oil and acrylic on canvas Size: 60cm x 50 cm This painting is of a young girl on the brink of womanhood. She is unsure which spirit animal will settle with her when she transforms into womanhood. She has various ideas – and hoped that she will grow into a powerful and vibrant woman – but she is unsure who she will really be when she grows up. Paper birds therefore flutter around her in anticipation…
WEDDING DAY Acrylic and spray paint on canvas Size: 100cm x 70cm During the covid lockdown, many married couples have spent more time together in their homes. They are forced to look each other straight in the eyes again – no distractions – like they did on their wedding day. Are they seeing their own reflection in each other’s eyes…? Are they trying to establish once again whose identity is whose…?	SILVER MOON Oil, spraypaint and chalk on canvas Size: 100cm x 70cm Since I put this painting of an enchanted birch forest bathing in the silver of the full moon above my bed, my cat developed a new habit. He swaggers over to the bed, jumps up elegantly, parades onto my chest, lies his body down, and stares endlessly at this painting. He does this every morning and evening. I always say to him in my sleepy slumber: ‘you like that painting, don’t you catty’. He purrs loudly through my whole body in response.	INSATIABILITY Oil on canvas 75cm x 50cm Insatiability is so prevalent in our society. We can have everything and be anyone. We are overwhelmed by choice: choice of identity, choice of expertise, choice of people to spend time with and choice of lifestyle. As soon as we have chosen one thing, we strive to choose the next thing. We always want more. It appears that we have become insatiable… This painting is not original in design and was inspired by an image that caught the artist's eye in Indonesia.

Her new year’s resolution one year was ‘more blue’. I created this piece as a gift for her. IT’S JUST A PHASE... Spray paint, silver leaf and acrylic paint on paper Size: 30cm x 45cm The trees in this piece are silhouettes of leaves that the artist collected in the ancient woodlands in Hampshire. The starry night is full of magic and wonder. The divine feminine energy of the moon is shown in all her phases. All of the beauty in nature is temporary. It is flowing and changing with grace. As is everything in life. Temporary. This too shall pass. This too shall pass. This too shall pass.	GUATEMALAN MARKET Oil on canvas 15cm x 15cm I stayed in a village by Lake Atitlan in Guatemala in my early twenties for a month. I was studying Spanish and attempting to paint like the locals. This painting took weeks to complete, even though it is small, because it is built up in layers upon layers of oil paints. It is a bird’s eye view of a colourful Guatemalan market. SACRED MOUNTAIN ROCK Lino print on paper Size: 26cm x 26cm I discovered this carving in a sacred mountain rock in the Spanish Pyrenees mountains. I was alone in the middle of a mountain range when a huge storm raged over me. I took comfort near this rock. I recorded the pattern of the ancient carving, and then etched it into lino when I returned to London. This print is the only one ever made – there are no other copies – and I believe it holds the protective energy of the Spanish sacred mountain rock.	HELLO TREES Acrylic and pen on paper Size: 30cm x 20cm The girl was minding her own business, Eating a cheese sandwich and Watching the trees dance in the wind. When suddenly, the trees opened their Branches wide and revealed the Blueprint of their trunks, Exposing their sacred patterns. Her eyes grew wider and wider, As the glittering trees invited the Girl into their world. The girl whispered “hello trees” And bowed in awesome deference.	SYNCHRONICITY Collage and acrylic paint on canvas Size: 50cm x 40cm The universe may not be operating like a cold, meaningless machine after all! Synchronicity is the idea that the entire universe is intricately and intimately interconnected through vibration and meaning. Instead, the reality we experience each day may be flooded with fields of meaning. It is the ever-present reality for those that have the eyes to see it…
POETRY POND Acrylic, collage and chicken wire on canvas Size: 100cm x 70cm This piece was born in Brooklyn. The painting explores the active searching for soul in the grime and speed of a big city. In the artist's daily quest for peace amongst the chaos, she found the lily pads at Brooklyn Botanical Garden. Poetry appears to be floating on the surface of the dark pond. This illustrates how creativity is the natural order of life and it always bubbles up to the surface, even in the depths of darkness.	TOGETHER Collage and acrylic paint on canvas Size: 30cm x 40cm This piece is called 'together' to show the beauty of connection and collaboration in nature. Taking time to connect with nature helps to remind us what is means to be human. It is intended to remind the viewer to listen to the ancient wisdom of Mother Nature and to grow their own roots deep into the sacred earth beneath their feet.	INTUITION Charcoal on paper 60cm x 85cm This sketch is of a woman in tune with her intuition - her soul - her instinct. She has honed her intuition like a muscle and now she is able to listen to its wise whispers with some ease... She is fabulously comfortable in her nakedness.
SHAKTI RISING Charcoal on paper 60cm x 42cm These are charcoal sketches of women who are channeling their sexuality and encouraging their Shakti (divine feminine energy) to rise from their base chakra all the way up through their crown chakras...	DORMANT Oil on canvas 20cm x 25cm Growth takes time, and occurs in spurts. Two steps forward, one step backwards. Be gentle. You will lye dormant sometimes. That’s okay. You are just resting. MULTIPLE IDENTITIES Oil on canvas 50cm x 46cm This painting argues that we should strive for authenticity. Living from the inside-out. But the painting attempts to highlight – with four slightly different versions of the same person – that authenticity is a dynamic process. It is not permanent or static.
